Hi, I’m Jess.

A decade ago, my partner and I packed our bags and moved from the other side of the world (Australia) to New York. These days, when I’m not working, you might find me painting, sewing, biking, or hiking . . . but realistically, I’m usually chasing around my two-year-old, completely in awe as she discovers the world one butterfly and rock at a time.

Birth has fascinated me since childhood — my mom had four wildly different births in the '80s, and I've been asking her questions about them ever since.

In July 2024, I gave birth to my daughter at home, just after midnight, after many hours of labor and two hours of pushing, surrounded by a team I trusted. My midwife — also one of my dear friends for over ten years — had driven two hours to reach me. The moment she walked in, I looked at her, sternly, and said, "You lied to me — this is way harder than you said it would be." She laughed, squeezed my hand, and stayed steady beside me for everything that followed. It was the most difficult thing I've ever done, and also the most incredible. The first thing I said when she was born was "I did it"

That birth, and the calm, unwavering support I received from my own doula throughout it, is what pulled me into this work. I spent the past decade in communications for an international humanitarian medical nonprofit and studied psychology alongside it, graduating a month before my daughter was born.

In practice, that combination shows up in small, specific ways: noticing when someone's nodding along but seems unsure and checking in privately; remembering what mattered to you weeks earlier and bringing it back up when it's relevant; and, when a decision needs to be made, helping you slow down and think it through — what's being offered, what the alternatives are, and what feels right to you — so you land on a choice that is your own.

I completed the Carriage House Birth in-person doula intensive in May 2025, followed by mentorships with co-founder Lindsey Bliss and NY-based doula Lou Read. While I'm new to practicing as a doula, I'm not new to the birth world, and I'm backed by a strong community of experienced midwives and doulas I lean on regularly.
